InnoDB
Learn what a database engine is, what are the merits of the InnoDB engine and why it's gaining so much worldwide popularity.
InnoDB is a database engine for MySQL relational databases, which is used by famous PHP script-powered web applications like Joomla™ v3 and Magento. It’s perfect for scalable apps, as it excels in managing large volumes of data. Instead of locking the entire table to insert new information in a database like many other engines do, InnoDB locks only one row, so it can complete much more tasks for the same length of time. Plus, InnoDB offers a much faster database failure recovery and supports database transactions and foreign key constraints – rules that specify how data imports and modifications should be handled. If a specific operation has not been thoroughly completed for any reason, the action will be rolled back. Thus, the information in the database will be retained intact and will not be partially merged with newly appended content.

InnoDB in Hosting
While InnoDB is either a paid upgrade or it is not available at all with many hosting providers, it’s part of the standard set of services that we offer with our hosting packages. If you want to use an open-source script-powered application that needs InnoDB specifically, in order to be installed and to perform properly, you will not face any obstacles as the InnoDB storage engine is available on our custom cloud hosting platform. Regardless of whether you set up a brand new MySQL database and install an application manually or use our one-click app installer instrument, InnoDB will be selected automatically by our platform as the default engine if the particular application needs InnoDB instead of MyISAM. Besides the amazing database failure recovery that InnoDB offers, we also store regular backups of all databases, so that we can easily recover any database in your shared account.
- InnoDB in Semi-dedicated Servers
All our Linux semi-dedicated servers come with InnoDB and you can make the most of all the options offered by this storage engine with any open-source script-based software application that needs it. It is one of the engines that we have on our cloud hosting platform, so the one that will be used depends on the given app’s requirements. You won’t have to do anything manually to enable InnoDB, since it will be set as the default engine whenever you install an app – whether manually or using our 1-click app installer. To avoid any risk, we’ll perform daily MySQL database backups, so if anything goes wrong following an update or if you remove some data unintentionally, we will be able to restore your database the way it was on any of the previous seven days.- InnoDB in VPS Servers
If you pick a VPS server with our Hepsia hosting Control Panel, the InnoDB database storage engine will be an indivisible part of the standard software bundle that will be installed on your server before we give it to you. You will not have to configure anything manually and you’ll be able to enable and use any script-based software application that needs InnoDB once your VPS server is ready, which takes no more than 60 minutes after the order procedure itself. A few engines are available, so anytime you create a MySQL database using the Hepsia Control Panel, a specific engine will be selected once the app installation begins and our system will recognize which engine is required by the application in question. In case you need MyISAM, for instance, you will not need to do anything different from installing the preferred app, whether manually or using our application installer tool.- InnoDB in Dedicated Servers
InnoDB comes by default with all dedicated service ordered with the Hepsia Control Panel. It’s an integral part of the standard software bundle that will be pre-installed on all Hepsia-equipped dedicated servers, so once your machine is set up, you’ll be able to sign in and to activate any type of open-source script-powered app that requires this particular database engine. If you set up a new database through the Control Panel, there won’t be any activated engine until you start installing an app. Once the app installation wizard starts entering content into the database, the engine will be picked automatically in accordance with the prerequisites of the given app, so you can run both InnoDB and MyISAM without the need to select either one specifically at any time. Thus, you can use a broad selection of apps for your sites. - InnoDB in Semi-dedicated Servers
