An Operating System is the basic software that manages a PC. It takes care of the way the hardware functions, the communication with peripherals such as a monitor, a printer or a keyboard, the allocation of memory between apps, plus the prioritization of apps in case multiple ones run at the same time. Each program which is installed on a desktop or a laptop functions by sending requests to the OS for various services via an application program interface (API). The communication with the OS can be achieved using a Graphical User Interface (GUI) or a command line. In the hosting world, the Operating System is what runs a web server together with all the software installed on it, which includes not only website scripts, but, in addition any other application for example a VOIP or a game server. When there are virtual machines created, they work with a guest OS that is run on the server host OS.
Multiple OS in VPS Servers
We offer you as many as 3 different Linux distributions for the Operating System of our VPS servers - Debian, CentOS and Ubuntu. These are among the safest and the most reliable OSs you can find and we supply all three of them rather than only 1 because we realize that you may want to install some software which has specific requirements regarding the Operating System it shall run on. The latter is because each of the three Operating Systems has a huge support community behind it and there are different software programs you can install on the server. Your OS selection will also determine exactly what hosting Control Panel can be set up on the VPS in case you wish to use one and for this reason we offer multiple Control Panels too. If you ever decide that you need another OS, our tech support team can quickly wipe the current one and set up the one that you'd like. In addition, we offer an optional service to maintain the OS on your VPS updated weekly.
Multiple OS in Dedicated Servers
We offer three Operating Systems with our dedicated server packages - CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian. They're all different Linux distributions and we offer them not only because they're absolutely free so they won't increase the price of your new web server, but also because they are exceptionally secure and stable. Each one of them is supported by a huge community of developers, so you'll be able to choose from thousands of software packages that you could install on your server if the app that you want to employ has certain requirements. The Operating System will also determine what web hosting Control Panel you can use as the Control Panels that we offer are compatible with specific OSs only and because we want to give you as much versatility as possible, we offer multiple OSs and multiple Control Panels. If you get a server with a given Operating System, we could change it upon request in case it turns out that you need alternative one. We will also keep the OS updated weekly as a part of our optional Managed Services upgrade.
